The labor union that represents American Airways’ pilots stated Tuesday that it’s planning to picket on the provider’s main hubs this fall to protest overscheduling, fatigue and an absence of inns for crews over the summer season.
American and Southwest Airways’ flight attendants’ unions have complained about related points.
The pilots’ union’s plans are the most recent signal of rising rigidity between some labor teams and airways’ administration, which have scrambled to maintain up with journey demand through the peak trip months, to seize income after the pandemic sparked a chronic hunch for the business.
The Southwest Airways Pilots Affiliation, which represents Southwest’s roughly 9,000 pilots, final month stated it’s contemplating picketing at U.S. airports throughout end-of-year holidays over related points. These plans are nonetheless below contemplating, the union’s president Casey Murray advised CNBC on Tuesday.
The Allied Pilots Affiliation, the union that represents American’s 15,000 pilots, is in the course of contract negotiations with the airline, as is the provider’s flight attendant union.
The union stated it was planning to picket at American’s hubs in Miami Worldwide Airport, Dallas/Fort Value Worldwide Airport and others “within the coming weeks.”
